Mt. Wellington cable car proposal

Mt. Wellington is a popular tourist destination located in Hobart, Tasmania, Australia’s southernmost province and gateway to the Southern Ocean. At the moment, the mountain summit remains mostly undeveloped except for a modest lookout point.

SECTION 1

Entirely located on private land, the first section of your journey begins at Cascade. The Cable Car proposed here is a series of 8-seater gondolas that ferry visitors 1km into the foothills of Mount Wellington. These 8 seater gondolas will continually run, offering no queues and seamless flush-floor loading for bikes, prams and wheelchairs.

SECTION 2

TO minimise the quantity of towers and visual impact of the project, our team has verified that an Aerial Tram is the best approach. With only 2 towers on public land (below summit and foothill) and a 2.1km span between them, this system will preserve the mountain face.
Concept for our cabins: Spacious enough for school-tours, wedding groups and special events, these custom-designed cabins feature an outdoor balcony, glass-bottomed floor and wrap-around floor-to-ceiling glazing to truly create a memorable, family-friendly experience. Only 2 cabins will run this section.
