Telluride Ski Resort ADDING NEW LIFT AND TERRAIN IN REVELATION BOWL

rev•e•la•tion   n. something revealed, especially a striking disclosure of something not previously known or realized.

TELLURIDE, Colo. – The Telluride Ski Resort is thrilled to announce the opening of spectacular Revelation Bowl for the 2008-09 winter season. This European-style terrain, located directly off the back side of famous Gold Hill and Chair 14, will be served by a new, locally manufactured Leitner-Poma quad-lift. Situated above tree line, the natural, wide-open bowl offers advanced and expert skiing in an unbelievably scenic setting.

Revelation Bowl, located on a northeastern aspect that naturally gathers huge amounts of snow from the resort’s predominant westerly storms, has long been the envy of those standing atop Gold Hill. From the top of the new Revelation lift, skiers and riders will be able to choose ridgelines in either direction, offering steeper pitches and rock features on the far sides of the powder bowl. The center touts an expanse of rolling, advanced terrain with a groomed path for cruising.

Descending into the bowl, skiers and riders will better understand the definition of ‘revelation’ as the stunning scenery will leave them breathless without exception. With each turn down the 800 vertical feet, the massive 2,000-foot rock wall on the opposite side of the drainage grows larger, reaching up to 13,472 foot La Junta Peak and 13,555 foot Wasatch Mountain . To the skier’s right, 13,446 foot San Joaquin Ridge keeps watch over the entire Bear Creek Basin , and to the skier’s left the town of Telluride peeks out 3,000 feet below, overlooked by the San Sophia range.

“Revelation Bowl offers an unbelievable experience,” said CEO Dave Riley. “With some of the best snow and scenery in North America , there are few places that can compare.”

Construction on the new Leitner-Poma lift will take place this summer, running from the base of Revelation Bowl up to the Gold Hill ridge. The base of the lift actually sits in a large flat area more than 1,500 feet above the Bear Creek drainage, possibly the original ‘revelation’ that skiers and riders discovered that led to the long-time name of the bowl. The top of the lift sits at the base of the Hillary Step, and also offers access with a short 160 vertical-foot hike to Gold Hill Chutes 6-10 and the expansive Palmyra Basin below 13,320 foot Palmyra Peak .

The opening of Revelation Bowl is just part of Telluride’s incredible expansion this year. The first phase began with public hike-to access in Black Iron Bowl last December. Mid-season, Palmyra Peak and Gold Hill Chutes 6-10 opened to rave reviews. All told, the resort has expanded by nearly 400 acres, offering some of the most stunning skiing and riding on the continent. The resort’s vertical drop is now one of the largest in North America at 4,425 feet, with 3,845 vertical feet lift-served.

“Legendary for its scenery and terrain since the beginning, Telluride has now set itself apart with what it has to offer skiers and riders of all levels,” said Riley. “There are very few places where the Alps and Rockies experiences come together in North America, especially combined with Colorado ’s snow, sun and historic culture.”
